Community hosts third annual Thanksgiving Scarborough

Thanksgiving Scarborough is toted as a community meal for the community by the community with local residents, businesses, and non-profits donating their time, food, and other items to create a welcoming environment for Mainers to gather and enjoy each other's company over a home cooked Thanksgiving dinner.

SCARBOROUGH (NEWS CENTER Maine)-- Kelly Murphy knows how hard cooking and hosting a Thanksgiving Meal is. Four years ago, her home lost power while entertaining family members during the meal. She knew others had similar issues, so the following year, she helped organize the first Thanksgiving Scarborough.

Thanksgiving Scarborough is toted as a community meal for the community by the community with local residents, businesses, and non-profits donating their time, food, and other items to create a welcoming environment for Mainers to gather and enjoy each other's company over a home cooked Thanksgiving dinner.

Murphy says they asked people to RSVP to Thursday's event to get an idea of how many mouths the cooking staff would have to feed (which is estimated to be between 300 and 400), but anyone is welcome to come and grab a plate. You also don't need to be a resident of Scarborough to do so.

The third annual Thanksgiving Scarborough kicks off at 11am at the Wentworth School.
