Since this is a relatively temperate climate area, Mainers (Do I get to be a "Mainer" yet? It's only been about 1.5 years, BUT I bought an all wheel drive car and find myself less offended by country music.) often whine about heat when it's not warranted. This is not one of those times. I'm going to give everyone a "whine and get out of jail free"card today.
Another hot and humid day is on tap with temperatures likely to reach the mid to upper 90s in many spots. Expect mostly sunny skies, which right now is a bad thing, to be obscured a bit by widespread haze. The warmest areas will be right along the coastline and into the interior with no sea breeze to speak of. Places like Lewiston and Sanford have a shot of hitting 100 by late this afternoon. Even notorious cool spots like Rockland and Bar Harbor will reach the upper 80s. Take these temperatures and combine them with dew points in the mid 70s (some of the most humid air you will ever see in the Northeast. Dew points rarely go above 80 F, and if they do it's near the Gulf of Mexico) and you have heat index values in excess of 105-110 F.
Tonight should be a bit more comfortable for sleeping when compared to last night...but still it's going to be sticky. Look for low temperatures in the upper 60s under partly cloudy skies.
Saturday will still be hot, but compared to today it will be an improvement. Highs will be in the upper 80s to low 90s with decreasing humidity. I think we will see a bunch of sun in the morning but clouds will increase from the west by the afternoon. These clouds are out ahead of a cold front that will finally give us some relief from the heat.
Sunday will feel like a dream for most people, temperatures will drop to the upper 70s and lower 80s with significantly lower humidity.
Monday will be similar with temperatures falling more into the "average" category.
No more big heat in sight for the next 5 or so days. If you are like me, you are Ok with that...
If you are like Yocono, you prefer to man-tan in the upper 90s.
To each their own.
See ya!
