PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Derrik Gibson singled home Jonathan Roof in the bottom of the 10th to lift the Portland Sea Dogs to a 5-4 comeback win against the Bowie Baysox in their season finale.
The win prevented Portland being swept for the first time in 20 series this season.
Roof led off the 10th with a walk against Bowie reliever Chris Petrini (L, 2-2) and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Heiker Meneses. Baysox manager Gary Kendall then called to the bullpen for Fabio Castillo only for Gibson to hit a grounder into left field allowing Roof to score the game-winning run.
Portland was able to extend the game after erasing a 4-2 deficit in the bottom of the eighth thanks to a Gibson RBI double and Deven Marrero driving in Gibson with a single to level the game. Gibson was 2-4 with two runs batted in.
Sean Coyle sparked the Sea Dogs early with two hits, including a solo home run in the second inning.
Portland starter Mike Augliera went 6 2/3 innings, giving up four runs on nine hits. Two of his earned runs came in the second when David Adams hit a two run homer. Miguel Celestino (W, 1-2) pitched two perfect innings in relief to earn his first win of the season.
The Sea Dogs (41-22) will have a day off on Monday before a nine-game road trip, which starts with a three-game series in Altoona on Tuesday. Brian Johnson is likely to start the series opener on the mound for Portland (3-1, 2.04). Joely Rodriguez (3-4, 4.08) will get the call for the Curve.
