PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - The Maine Red Claws didn't make the playoffs this season, but their primary goal of development has caught the attention of others as guard Frank Gaines was named the NBA Development League's Most Improved Player.
The rookie started 34 of his 48 games games played fourth in the league with a 22.4 points per game average adding 3.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 35.4 minutes a contest.
In the first three months of the season, Gaines averaged 19.2 ppg, but then elevated that final final three months putting up 25.4 ppg.
Gaines is the second Red Claw to win the award. Kenny Hayes received the honor in 2011-12.
