LEWISTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - A year after being to the top-ten in the running for the Hobey Baker award, Portland Pirates rookie Greg Carey is one step closer to winning the 2014 honor after being named one of the three finalists for college hockey's top individual honor.

Carey, who signed a one-year entry level contract with Portland on March 19th, concluded his career at St. Lawrence last month, scored 19 goals and added 38 assists for the Saints this past season.

The other finalists are fellow forwards Johnny Gaudreau from Boston College and Nic Dowd from St. Cloud State.

The winner will be announced next Friday at the Frozen Four in Pittsburgh.
