HAMPDEN, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -The season didn't end on the court the way Hampden Academy forward Zach Gilpin had hoped in the Class 'A' final, but he was able to close out his high school career with one last victory asMaine's Gatorade Maine Boys Basketball Player of the Year.

Gilpin is the first boys basketball player from Hampden Academy to receive this award.

The award recognizes outstanding athletic excellence, high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the court.

Gilpin, a senior forward, averaged 23.0 points, 10.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.6 steals per game this past season, leading the Broncos to the Class A state championship game. He also maintained a 3.37 GPA in the classroom.

The 6'5'' senior led the Broncos to a 43-game win streak and three consecutive state finals, including the 2013 championship.

In addition to donating his time as a youth basketball instructor, he has volunteered on behalf of Coats for Kids and Hoops for Hope.

Gilpin is still undecided about where he'll play in college.
