PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A popular spot on the top of Munjoy Hill is getting ready to reopen. More than a year after the former Colucci's Hilltop Market was damaged in an intentionally set fire last March, residents are excited to see signs of a replacement.
After last year's fire, the building's owners sold to real estate manager, Bill Simpson. The goal was to reopen last fall, but residents have had to wait a little longer.
The Hilltop Superette will officially open next Monday, offering what Colucci's once did and more. The kitchen has been expanded, and a deli counter brought in, offering fresh local meat.
Simpson wanted to keep a vintage feel inside the store, from an old counter that will feature baked goods, to the tin ceiling and old light fixtures.
The Hilltop Superette opens its doors next Monday, just in time for July 4th, a weekend they expect will be so busy they'll just offer a limited menu.
