LEWISTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A cement truck and an oil tanker collided on the Maine Turnpike Tuesday afternoon, closing northbound lanes.
According to the Maine Turnpike Authority, the crash occurred between Exit 75 in Auburn and Exit 80 in Lewiston.
Motorists are asked to seek alternate routes while the accident was cleaned up. All northbound traffic is being diverted off the turnpike at Exit 75 in Auburn.
Southbound traffic on the Turnpike from Exit 80 heading southbound is now flowing freely with no blocks.
The oil tanker has to be drained before being removed from the turnpike. Authorities say the turnpike is expected to be closed for "a couple more hours."
