BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The 25-year-old man charged with breaking into a woman's home and brutally beating her was sentenced Tuesday morning. Nicholas Hutchinson will spend the next nine years behind bars for the violent home invasion back in 2012.

Nicholas Hutchinson previously pleaded no contest to the charges. The state offered the Medway man a plea deal of no more than ten years behind bars. Hutchinson along with another man entered a Greenbush home and after seeing the homeowner was present Hutchinson beat the victim, Marcia Fieger with various weapons. Her young son was hit with mace during the assault.

Hutchinson addressed the court blaming his drug addiction as what fueled his previous actions. He apologized to the victim and her family.

The victim, Marcia Fieger, addressed the court explaining how she and her two young children still struggle with what happened to them.

Fieger spoke outside the courtroom, "Knowing that you know Nicholas Hutchinson is going to be gone for years makes me safe. I an go home and tell my children they're safe and I believe that will be a good feeling for them knowing that he won't be getting out for a long time."

Hutchinson will serve nine years in prison followed by four months probation. His co-defendant previously pleaded guilty and received a six year sentence.
