BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- For the first time, the acrobatic spectacle Cirque du Soleil has come to Bangor. Tonight they'll debut with a performance of the show Verakai.
The plot of the show is based on the myth of Icarus- a character with wings made of wax that melted when he flew too close to the sun. Instead of falling into the ocean, the show depicts Icarus falling into an enchanted forest where he starts a new journey. Verakai is made up of 98 performers and crew members- 50 of them cast members. Each performer has between two and five costumes, but there are about two thousand costume pieces in all. A Show spokesperson says having the venue at the new Cross Insurance Center was a factor in being able to come to Bangor.
Varekai opens Wednesday night at 7:30 with show running through Sunday evening. For more dates and times, please refer to the information below.
