Back in the late '80s, people in Jefferson, NH were on edge.

More than two dozen fires there had been deliberately set. Those crimes and the impact they had on the town and its people inspired the new novel, "The Arsonist," by Sue Miller.

Miller is a best-selling writer who knows not just New Hampshire, but also Maine. Her great-grandfather was the head of the Bangor Theological Seminary and when she was a kid, Sue Miller spent summers on Phillips Lake just outside of Bangor.
