SCARBOROUGH, ME (NEWS CENTER) -- A rare sight made landfall in a lobsterman's trap on Saturday morning.
Jay LaPlante with the Miss Meghan Lobster Catch company caught a blue lobster off Pine Point in Scarborough around 10:45 Saturday morning.
Jay reports he and his 14 year-old daughter Meghan were hauling traps when she discovered the 2 pound cerulean crustacean. Jay and Meghan tell NEWS CENTER it's the first time they've ever caught a blue lobster.
Meghan has named the lobster "Skyler", and says this lucky guy is going to avoid the dinner plate. Meghan has decided to donate Skyler to the Maine State Aquarium located in West Boothbay Harbor.
According to aquarium staff, Skyler will have plenty of company. It will join 3 other blue lobsters and an orange one in the tank. If you'd like to visit Skyler and friends, the aquarium is open 7 days a week from 10-5pm.
This isn't the first time we've heard from the LaPlante family business. Back in 2012, Chris Rose featured Meghan as she took to the seas in search of any lobster she could get her then 12 year-old hands on. To watch, click the story below:
