OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A group of wounded warriors is traveling the country, spreading awareness, and proving that people with disabilities can get back in the game.

The Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team plays in cities across the country. The team is made up entirely of single or double amputees. The team was formed about three years ago, and now it is so popular it takes two years to get on their schedule. The players say it's an opportunity to form bonds with other veterans who are amputees, and spread awareness about disabilties.

"Being able to get back on the ballfield and have that second chance to play competitively and travel, it's awesome," team member Lonnie Gaudet said. "It's actually the best therapy you could have as veterans who have all played ball and miss the sport, there's nothing better than what were doing."

The team also holds a camp for children who are amputees. To learn more, visit their website by clicking here.
