WESTBROOK, Maine (NECN) -- Earlier this week, IDEXX announced double-digit growth in revenue and profits as well as plans to add 200 employees by the end of the year.
This good news comes on the heels of the opening of a $35 million dollar building that is part of an overall effort to change the way people work at IDEXX.
IDEXX makes test kits for pets and sells them to veterinarians around the world.
The new Synergy Center has an open concept plan, where even the CEO sits at a desk surrounded by other workers.
There's also a fitness center, international food court and even a free health clinic for employees. IDEXX CEO Jon Ayers says the amenities and new focus on collaboration is leading to stronger growth.
"We are expanding our US operation," Ayers said, "and we are going to be adding employees between now and the end of the year by almost 200 -- an 80% expansion."
IDEXX also just announced plans to change its business model and stop using distributors to sell its products, and instead focus entirely on selling directly to veterinarians.
