WATERVILLE, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The Waterville Police said one person was stabbed Monday night on Carey Lane. Police arrived at the scene around 9 p.m. and found a 24-year-old Waterville resident with a stab wound to his abdomen. An ambulance transported him to the hospital where he underwent surgery.
Detectives started investigating the stabbing, but the victim was uncooperative and refused to speak with investigators. Police said they are confident that the stabbing was not a random act. Police said it appears the victim and other males went to a residence on Carey Lane to confront another male over a personal dispute between the victim and the suspect. Police said a fight then broke out and the victim was struck on the head and stabbed.
Besides the difficulty with the victim and witnesses, a powerful thunderstorm washed away important evidence. However, they were able to recover the suspected weapon.
Police said they are not identifying the victim or the suspect. They are still trying to locate the suspect and interview him. They said the public is not in any danger and it appears to be an isolated incident.
Any person with information relevant to the case is asked to call the Police Department's business line at 207-680-4700.
