MACHIAS, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Only weeks after a massive fire leveled Helen's Restaurant, plans are in the works to rebuild with the town of Machias on board.

The planning board in Machias unanimously approved Helen's permit to rebuild at the same waterfront location where the restaurant burnt to the ground earlier this month.

While the plans are still in the early stages, this is a first step in the rebuilding process.

Jermar Inman, the chair of the planning board, said Monday's meeting was very quick. All five of its members were eager to give Helen's the approval it needed to go forward with its plans to rebuild.

Inman said Helen's owners are expecting the new building to cost about one million dollars and to be ready in about six months.

"One more step toward getting it back up on line so that everybody can enjoy themselves again," Inman said. "And it sounds like it'll be really nice when they get it done."

A crowdfunding website has already raised over $30,000 for Helen's roughly 50 employees.
