CAPE ELIZABETH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- With the race just a month away, preparations for the Beach to Beacon race begin Wednesday. Officials will mark the entire 6.2-mile run, which starts at Crescent Beach and ends at Portland Head Light.

The August 2 race will be the 17th year for the Beacon to Beacon. The race attracts more than 6,000 runners from all over the world and 10,000 spectators. The race supports a different Maine charity every year and officials have selected Rippleffect for 2014, a Portland-based non-profit youth and community development organization operating outdoor adventure programs.
