FREEPORT, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- According to the Small Business Administration, there are 143,000 small businesses in Maine, employing more than 282,000 workers. Tuesday, some of those companies were celebrated in Freeport.

The annual Small Business Awards were handed out at the Hilton Garden Inn. This year's top award went to Mary Allen Lindemann and Alan Spear, the founders of Coffee By Design. They were named Maine's Small Business Person of the Year.

The owners of The Gelato Fiasco were also honored as the SBA's Young Entrepreneur of the Year, and Amy Bouchard of Isamax Snacks received the award for Woman-Owner Small Business of the Year.

This year's awardees include:

Mary Allen Lindemann and Alan Spear, owners of Coffee By Design, who will be receiving the most prestigious SBA award presented in Maine, the Small Business Person of the Year Award;

Mr. Josh Davis and Mr. Bruno Tropeano, owners of The Gelato Fiasco, who will be receiving the SBA's Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Maine and for New England;

Mr. Peter McVety, owner of McVety's Hearth and Home, who will be receiving the SBA's Veteran-Owned Small Business of the Year Award for Maine;

Ms. Amy Bouchard, owner of Isamax Snacks (Wicked Whoopies), who will be receiving the SBA's Woman-Owned Small Business of the Year Award for Maine;

Ms. Terry Trickey of Bangor Savings Bank, who will be receiving the SBA's Financial Services Champion Award for Maine;

Ms. Cyndi Prince, Owner of LooHoo LLC, who will be receiving the Home-Based Small Business of the Year Award for Maine and for New England;

Brian and Kimberly Plavnick, owners of G-Force Laser Tag Corp., who will be receiving SBA's Micro-Enterprise of the Year Award for Maine;

The Deblois family, owners of Deblois Electric, Inc. who will be receiving the SBA's Jeffrey Butland Award for Maine, which is awarded to successful, multi-generation family businesses;

Mr. Eric J. Smith, Owner of EJ Drywall, who will be receiving the SBA Prime Contractor of the Year Award for Maine.

Additionally, District Director's Awards will be presented to:

Bangor Savings Bank for being the SBA's overall top dollar volume lender in Maine;

Katahdin Trust Company for being the SBA's top 7(a) dollar volume lender in Maine;

Granite State Economic Development Corporation for being the SBA's top performing 504 lender in Maine;

People's United Bank for being the SBA's top performing 504 third party lender in Maine;

Eastern Maine Development Corporation for being the top SBA Community Advantage lender in Maine;

NorState Federal Credit Union for being the SBA' s top performing credit union in Maine; and

CEI for being the top performing SBA Microlender in Maine.
