VASSALBORO, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The Maine Criminal Justice Academy celebrated nine new, four-legged graduates Friday.
The nine newest police canine teams received their badges in a ceremony in Vassalboro. The pups and their dedicated handlers from all over the state have spent the past 14 weeks away from their families, training in a variety of scenarios.
The graduates demonstrated some of the skills they've learned, showing the crowd their agility, how they track a suspect, and how they search for evidence.
The dogs live with their handlers, who say they make great family pets, and when it's time to go to work they bring invaluable skills to the department.
