GRAY Maine (NEWS CENTER) — The Attorney General of Augusta announced today that Nathanial Dupuis, of Gray, Maine, was sentenced to 4 years in the Department of Corrections for a number of state tax offences.
Formerly Dupuis pled guilty in 2013 to multiple counts of theft by Misapplication, Intentional Sales Tax Evasion, and failure to Truthfully Collect, Account, and Pay Over Sales Tax.
Dupuis owned and operated two companies which sold Kirby Vacuums to other companies and the general public. Dating back to 2004, Dupuis collected the sales tax on these vacuums keeping the money for himself and business use. He also sold the vacuums beyond the statue of limitations bringing in more sales tax.
Dupuis neglected customers their refunds and failed in some cases, to deliver new vacuums. The court imposed 2 years of probation and ordered Dupuis to pay $86,476 in restitution. In addition, Dupuis owes $80,000 in sales tax from the years since 2004.
