PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Hundreds gathered at the Jetport for a unique fundraiser for Multiple Sclerosis research and support services.
The MS Society gets teams of people together to pull a plane. Each team of 25 people competes to see how fast they can pull a 757 FedEx aircraft. Some teams train for months, while others just show up and see what they can do. They all share the common goal of raising as much money as possible for MS research and support.
"They say everybody has somebody they know with MS, and when you get talking about participating in an event like this you find out it's true" Jerry Fraser of Diversified Commnunications said. His team "DC Towing" participated in the plane pull for the first time this year.
"It's not about winning or losing," Sarah Paige of the "Beauty and the Beasts" said. "It's just about getting out here, having a good time, and raising money for a great cause." Paige's mother has MS, and her team was the top fundraising team this year raising more than nine thousand dollars.
Teams raised a total of more than $42 thousand Saturday, significantly more money than any other year.
