PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Tim Horton's restaurant chain celebrated "camp day" Wednesday, an annual fundraiser that sends economically disadvantaged children to summer camp.

Tim Horton's restaurants donated all proceeds from coffee sales Wednesday to a children's foundation that sends those children to camp.

NEWS CENTER's Lee Goldberg joined former UMaine Black Bear hockey player Matt Mangene at a location to help raise money and awareness for the big day.

"i went to camp my whole life growing up, I had the advantage of trying new things, meeting new people. I think every kid deserves that chance, and there are kids that don't get that chance," Mangene said. "Each Tim Horton's owner gets to pick two kids to go to camp from their community, which is really cool."

Last year, almost 12 million dollars was raised in the United States on "camp Day" -- which helped 17 thousand children go to summer camp.
