PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Volunteers with Maine's Red Cross chapter will be heading to New York to provide mental health support for families viewing the new 9/11 Memorial Museum.
The museum is opening one week early for those directly impacted by the events of September 11th.
The exhibit is expected to bring up a lot of emotion for those family members, so members of the American Red Cross will be mixed throughout the museum the first week.
Mainers like Ellin Ruffner are going to not only offer emotional support to those touring the exhibit for the first time, but also to the Red Cross members of New York who also suffered loss 13 years ago.
Maine's Red Cross volunteers will have orientation in New York on Thursday.
The museum opens to the general public on May 21st.
