SCARBOROUGH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Call it a "bald statement" about pediatric cancer: Scarborough police officers, firefighters, and dispatchers shaved their heads Saturday to support children fighting the disease.

It was a fundraiser for the Kid's Cancer Buzz Off. Participants shave their heads and raise money for the One Mission, which offers support for pediatric cancer.

Melissa DeClemente, a patrol officer with the Scarborough Police Department, heard about a mass head shaving Buzz Off at Gillette Stadium on June 8.

Instead of going to Foxboro, she wanted to bring the event to Scarborough.

Fifteen people had their heads shaved at the Public Safety building on Saturday. DeClemente's goal was to raise $1,300 - but she has brought in almost $2,000.

"Even though I may not be personally connected to a pediatric patient, if you ask anybody in here, there is a connection," said DeClemente.

The Scarborough team is still accepting donations on their fundraising page.
