SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- 250 runners gathered at the Maine Mall Jimmy the Greeks on Sunday for the 5K for Lyme Disease Awareness.
NEWS CENTER's Sharon Rose Vaznis emceed the event. The annual run is held to help raise awareness about the disease - from diagnosis, to dealing with treatment, and eventually recovery.
According to race director Angela Coulombe, running plays a key role in the lyme disease community, and her ultimate goal is to help bring the lyme disease community together.
The run raised $3,000 dollars for Lyme Buddies, an organization dedicated to helping Lyme disease patients find their own "buddy" for support.
