PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - The Maine Republican Party convention is coming up this weekend on the heels of a libertarian takeover two years ago and a platform controversy four years ago.

GOP Chairman Rick Bennett - who's made it his mission to unite the party - said the last convention was an "unmitigated disaster" that aired the party's dirty laundry. But he said he thinks things will be different this weekend.

The convention this Friday and Saturday in Bangor will feature addresses by 2016 presidential contender Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky and by North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory, along with Maine Sen. Susan Collins, Gov. Paul LePage and others.

The theme is "United for Jobs, United For Freedom, United for Maine."
