BIDDEFORD, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Biddeford Police arrested a man Sunday after he allegedly tried to purchase gift cards with a stolen credit card.

The CVS Pharmacy on Elm Street contacted police Sunday afternoon after noticing a male purchasing numerous prepaid cards and loading them with $50.00 each. He purchased all the prepaid cards with a Chase credit card. The man, 32-year-old Ryan Doucette, originally gave officers a a false name, the name on the Chase card. Officers determined he was not the owner of the card and not an authorized user. Police then escorted him outside the CVS for arrest, but he broke free. Officers were able to quickly capture him and transport him to the police department.

After further investigation, police learned the Chase card belongs to a 76-year-old Lewiston resident. Police also learned Doucette had also visited Rite Aid and stolen Hugo Boss cologne. He had also purchased several other items "by deceptive means": Wahl Chrome Pro hair cutting kit and gift cards for Home Depot, TJ Maxx, GameStop, Nike Store, Amazon.com and Applebee's.

Police charged Doucette with theft by deception, violating condition of release, refusing to submit to arrest, criminal mischief, misuse of identification. He is being held on $5000.00 cash bail and police transported to the York County Jail.
