BOSTON, Mass. (NEWS CENTER) -- There was lots of excitement surrounding this year's race. People knew it would be special and they wanted to be a part of it.
This race has always been a celebration with the arrival of Spring and warmer weather. After last year's bombings, everyone involved it to go back to that... a celebration.
There was a party atmosphere at the finish line, with people cheering, having a good time, and soaking up the atmosphere.
A small memorial remains in a bush where the second bomb went off last year. People told NEWS CENTER that, for the most part, they felt safe.
But mostly, Monday was a day to move forward and celebrate a city and a sport. Runners from near and far wanted to be a part of the special day.
The motto was Boston Strong after last year's bombings, and this year, the motto is Boston Stronger. And that's the message that everyone involved with the race wanted to prove.
