BIDDEFORD, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The basketball court wasn't the only place where high school students were competing this week.

Saturday, students who excel in science went head to head to win the top spot in the Nor'Easter Bowl at the University of New England.

It's the regional competition for the National Ocean Sciences Bowl. Fifteen teams from Northern New England answered questions about marine science, until one team earned the top ranking and advanced to the nationals.

Falmouth High School had a team in the competition for the first time this year.

"It's a little anxiety provoking," sixteen year-old Emily Connolly said. "Especially knowing that if you don't press the buzzer within a certain amount of time, question's up, no more chances. But overall it's fun, especially when we get to work together. I think we're best when we do that."

Falmouth took fifth place in the competition. Windham, New Hampshire took first place and will advance to the national finals in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in April.
