ORONO, Maine (Portland Press Herald) -- Even though there will be fewer first-time and transfer students in the University of Maine System this fall, more of them will be paying out-of-state tuition, reports NEWS CENTER's media partners at the Portland Press Herald.
More students from outside of Maine are enrolled in the UMaine System for Fall 2014, up 12 percent since last year. Out-of-state students pay nearly three times the tuition as in-state students. At the Orono campus, in-state tuition is approximately 8,370 for two semesters, while out-of-state students pay $26, 250.
"Maine is doing great on out-of-state numbers," said Rosa Redonnett, chief student affairs officer for the system.
