BILLINGS, Montana (KULR) --Floodwaters are receding around the Billings, Montana area, but that's not the case at ZooMontana.
On Sunday Executive Director Jeff Ewelt shut the zoo doors for the first time due to extensive damage and high water on several paths and animal habitats.
"It's an awful feeling. We woke up, and we were all sick to our stomachs. We've come back so fast here at the zoo. To see some of these damages going on is sickening. Mother Nature has dealt us quite a blow this winter with attendance and the snow. You just roll with the punches, move forward, and you take it as it comes," Ewelt said.
According to Ewelt, proper protocol is in place to ensure larger carnivores, like the wolves, are safe during the flooding.
