ELLSWORTH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A fire caused significant damage Sunday night at Birdsacre - Stanwood Wildlife Sanctuary in Ellsworth. On Tuesday, state fire investigators told NEWS CENTER that the fire was intentionally set.

An Ellsworth Fire Department representative stated the fire started around 6 p.m.in the back of a building on the bird sanctuary property.

That building is the museum part of the sanctuary. No birds are kept in that building. No animals were injured in the fire and no people were present at the time of the fire.

The birds at the sanctuary are kept at a separate facility on sanctuary property.

The house damaged in the fire dated back to the 1850's.
