BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Sunday was a day of recognition for one unit of the Maine Army National Guard, comingyears after the group returned from its deployment.

Members of the 286th combat sustainment support battalion were sent to Afghanistan in 2009. Their mission was to support other combat units serving in the country.

It's estimated that in all the 286th helped about 30,000 additional U.S. Troops.

The unit returned from deployment in 2010.

On Sunday, its members received a collective honor for overall excellence - the Meritorious Unit Commendation Award.

Servicemen we spoke said to it was good seeing that even though years have passed, their work did not go unrecognized.
