CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Cumberland County Sheriff Officers arrested a Windham man on Insurance Deception (class C) charges Tuesday. Daniel McCracken reported his 2008 KTM 505 dirt bike stolen in December 2009. The value of the bike was reported to be $5000. McCracken filed an insurance claim, and received compensation for the bike.
On February 3, 2014, Cumberland County Sheriff Officers received a tip about possible insurance fraud regarding the bike. The tip said the website fyimoto.com was advertising the same stolen bike for sale. Deputies contacted the seller via the website, expressing interest in purchase. Undercover deputies met with the seller, who they identified as McCracken, to look at the bike. Upon inspection, it was indeed the "stolen" bike. Officers then arrested McCracken.
McCracken was booked at Cumberland County Jail. He has posted bail and is scheduled for a March 12 arraignment.
