BRYANT POND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- It was an emotional time at an elementary school in the Western Maine town of Bryant PondFriday.

The American Legion and the Freeport Flag Ladies gave 5-year old Landen Pfeffer a medal for bravery for supporting his father, who is an corporal in the army serving our country overseas. Pfeffer has served in Afghanistan as a combat medic and at a base in Italy training NATO forces. He was able to see his son a couple of weeks each year, but watched his son grow up on skype and face time.

'Tt's exciting to see him, he is so much bigger since the last time I saw him, just to see him with his friends, how he interacts and everything it's pretty exciting,' said Pfeffer.

Pfefferwill get a month off to spend time with his son before he starts his new assisgment with the Maine National Guard.
