YARMOUTH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Yarmouth Police are investigating an attempted robbery at the Cumberland Farms Store on Route 1 in Yarmouth.

OnJanuary21at approximately 1:10am, a suspect entered the store, approached the service counter and asked the clerk for 2 packs of cigarettes. As the clerk was placing the cigarettes on the counter, the suspect put a note down in front of him. The note demanded that the clerk hand over the money in the register. The clerk refused to comply with the suspect's request and the suspect fled the premises.

A police canine team was called in to help track the suspect. The canine team tracked the suspect but eventually the track was lost.

The suspect is described as a black male, 20-22 years of age, 5'8" to 5'10" in height, with a thin build. The suspect was wearing a dark blue hoodie with a white logo on the back and left sleeve, dark- colored pants, and a baseball cap.

At this time the investigation is ongoing and there is no further information.
