STEVENSON, Washington (KGW) --The family of a man killed during a shark attack said he was doing what he loved while fishing in Hawaii.

Police say 57-year-old Patrick Briney of Stevenson, Washington died Monday while fishing from a kayak off Maui's southwest coast. State Department of Land and Natural Resources says the shark bit his dangling foot.

His fishing partner in another kayak tied a tourniquet on the man and asked for help from a nearby tour boat, which took the man to shore.
