"Weird Al" Yankovic is a juggernaut in American pop culture. His parodies have garnered praise and acclaim. His TV shows and movies have a dedicated cult audience and many artists now wear his parody songs as a badge of honor - a sign that they've made it.
"Weird Al" got his start playing the accordion and figured out how to make it as a musician largely on his own. He loves to immerse himself in music as he works on his parody songs. He also finds an abiding pleasure on the tracks that are not a note-for-note parody but rather music that's "in the style of" certain bands or genres.
Recently Yankovic's work has taken another turn: children's books. He says he owes much to the styles of Shel Silverstein and Dr. Seuss.
