BRUNSWICK, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Another feline has been adopted from the Coastal Humane Society in Brunswick. In fact, more than a hundred have just this weekend.

The Humane Society's "Catapalooza" event has been such a success they've had to bring in more cats to keep up with demand.

The AnimalRefuge Leagueand Greater Androscoggin Humane Societydelivereddozens of their cats in need of new homes.

The event spurred when the shelter in Brunswick received 100 cats from a man who had been caring for them in a single-wide mobile home.

The hoarder cats received medical treatment and were the first to go according to the Human Society's Executive Director, Karen Stimpson.All but one were adopted within the first few hours. And despite the good news, they plan on filling up again quickly.

"The publicity from this event has cause many people who needed to surrender a cat for whatever reason to say 'oh they are running out of cats - this is a good time to surrender.' So we'll probably be filled up within a week and a half," says Karen Stimpson. "It happens very quickly."

A statewide animal adoption eventis expected to take place October 18.
