PORTLAND, Maine(NEWS CENTER) -- Four people were rescued when the boat they were in caught fire in Casco Bay Sunday afternoon.

Chris Berry with the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Northern New England said a 39-foot Sea Ray power boat caught fire between Portland Head Light and Cushing Island Sunday around 12:30 p.m.

Berry said four people were on board and all of them were able to escape injury. They were assisted by nearby boaters and were pulled to safety.

The U.S. Coast Guard, Portland Fire Department and Maine Marine Patrol all responded to the scene Sunday afternoon. The fire was knocked down within thirty minutes.

The burned boat was towed to Spring Point Marina in South Portland.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the marine patrol.
