BOSTON (AP) - The season is over for closer Joel Hanrahan of the Red Sox. He needs season-ending surgery on his right forearm. Hanrahan walked off the mound in the ninth inning of Monday's 6-5, 11-inning win over Minnesota after throwing a pitch.

He was obtained from Pittsburgh in an offseason trade. The two-time All-Star, who is 0-1 with a 9.83 earned run average in nine games, is making $7.04 million this year.
