Marrakesh, Morocco (Sports Network) - Former French Open champion Francesca Schiavone posted a first-round victory Wednesday at the $235,000 Moroccan Grand Prix.

The sixth-seeded Italian veteran got past Croat Petra Martic 7-6 (10-8), 6-4 at this clay-court tennis event.

In second-round action, South African Chanelle Scheepers drilled Spaniard Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor 6-2, 6-1.

And in some other opening-round play, Kazakhstan's Yulia Putintseva topped France's Mathilde Johansson 6-3, 6-4 and Russian Olga Puchkova dismissed Slovakian veteran Daniela Hantuchova 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5.
