BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- As you begin planting seeds for your gardens, why not plant an extra row for those without the means or land to grow their own fresh vegetables.

The Food Cupboard provides for nearly 1,800 households and is reaching out to the community to help freshen things up when the needy come to pick up their food.

They are asking residents to keep them in mind by planting a few extra rows of fruits and vegetables in their own garden that can be dedicated to helping the hungry. As Summer nears, cupboard coordinators hope to see donations of fresh leaf vegetables such as spinach broccolli and lettuce, and fresh fruits including strawberries, blueberries and raspberries.
