BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- A group of John Bapst High School students received an award that has never been given out before.

The school's jazz band competed in the Maine State Instrumental Jazz Festival over the weekend, and took home first place in Division III. Along with the top title, the entire trombone section received the Outstanding Musicianship Award. This is the first time in the event's history that this title has been given to a group and not an individual.

Band members said they were happy to take the the win and the award home to Bangor.

"It feels great just because it's my senior year, and this is a great way to end it," said Matt Dunning, a member of the jazz band. "But I mean the whole championship thing doesn't come without the rest of the band. Our chemistry was really great this year, and we definitely worked hard to get it."
