PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - A soldier from Maine who was seriously wounded in an attack in Afghanistan has returned home for Thanksgiving.
Sgt. Helaina Lake, from Livermore Falls, suffered serious injuries in a suicide attack in June.
She has been recuperating at Walter Reed Military Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
Her mother and son have been with her to keep her company, but much of her family is still in Maine.
Tuesday, around noon, her plane touched down at the Portland International Jetport. She arrived in a wheelchair and was greeted by a crowd of clapping well-wishers.
The route from the Jetport to Interstate 95, and then from Route 4 in Auburn to the Knights of Columbus hall in Jay is lined with people showing their support for Sgt. Lake.
