FORT KENT, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Phones are down in the crown of Maine and an auto dealership has been destroyed after an early morning fire.

Eight fire departments from both Maine and Canada battled the blaze at Valley Auto GMC on West Main Street Wednesday morning.

The flames knocked out Fairpoint's phone service when they took out utility poles in front of the dealership.

A major fiber optic line that feeds St. John, Allagash, St. Francis, Violet Settlement and Dickey was heavily damaged. Fairpoint crews will work through the night to restore service to those towns. They expect everyone will be back online by Thursday.

The Ft. Kent police department has temporarily been moved to an old Fairpoint office so they could have phone service.

The State Fire Marshal's office is investigating.
