DOVER, N.H. (AP) - Campaigning in New Hampshire, vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan says the Republican ticket will put Americans back to work rather than encourage their dependency on government.

Ryan spoke in Dover Tuesday, a day after a hidden camera video surfaced showing Mitt Romney saying 47 percent of people who will vote for President Barack Obama "believe that they are victims." Romney responded by saying Obama favors a "government-centered society" with people dependent on public support.

Ryan emphasized that argument Tuesday without mentioning the video. He told an audience of about 400 supporters that while he and Romney believe in a safety net, one that encourages dependency drains people of their potential to improve their lives.
