(NEWS CENTER) - Events and ceremonies are being held across the state in honor of the 11th anniversary of September 11th.

United Way of Greater Portland wants to remember the lives lost and affected from the September 11th attacks by collecting food donations at two different locations.

One location isat One Canal Plaza in Portland, but there's also a drive taking place at 755 Main Street in Westbrook.

United Way is looking for non-perishable food items to "can hunger" in Cumberland County.

Portland Mayor Michael Brennan will be here at The Portland location at11 and Westbrook Mayor Colleen Hilton will be at the Westbrook location at 9.

In Lewiston, starting at 9:58, all fire department personnel with gather for a moment of silence with bells.

Bells will ring at 9:59, then a moment of silence will take place at 10.

In Augusta at the VA Togus campus, chaplain services will be organizing a ceremony that starts at 11:30 in Building 235 in the Chapel.

And the Brewer Fire Department will have two pieces of metal from the World Trade Center on display in its museum all day today. They'll alsohave a firefighter on hand to walk visitors through the museum.

In Ellsworth, the fire department will be displaying a World Trade Center monument from 8am-5pm today.

And from 11 to 6 today, the Red Cross will be holding a blood drive at the Augusta Civic Center.

Presenting donors will receive a collectible Fenway Park 100th anniversary t-shirt, learn how to prepare for emergencies and enjoy ballpark refreshments.
