BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- US Airways Flight 787 from Paris toCharlotte, North Carolinahas been diverted to the Bangor International Airport.
According to US Airways, the flight was diverted because out of caution for a security issue. A U.S. official says the initial reports said a female passenger appeared to be mentally unstable.
An official briefed on the investigation says the woman is in custody and the flight has been cleared to continue. The woman is a French citizen who was born in Cameroon.
Another official said the passenger appeared to be mentally unstable and that she announced that she had a surgically implanted device.
The flightoriginated at the Charles DeGaulle Airport with 179 passengers and nine crew members on board.
The TSA released the following statement:
US Airways flight 787 (CDG-CLT) has landed safely in Bangor (BGR). TSA is aware of reports of a passenger who exhibited suspicious behavior during flight. Out of an abundance of caution the flight was diverted to BGR where it was met by law enforcement.
