NEW GLOUCESTER, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Brittany Humphrey grew up in a hunting and fishing family. Now she is the first Miss Maine Sportsman and she intends to encourage other women to get involved and enjoy the outdoors.
"I'm not much of a pageant person," said the 24-year old graduate of Gray-New Gloucester High School and The University of Maine at Presque Isle. She won her title by filling out a resume and interviewing with judges at the Maine Sportsman Show.
The Humphreys are a hunting family. Father Lonnie, mother Pam, brother Cody and twin sister Danielle and Brittany have all shot bull moose. Brittany's favorite hunt is of white tailed deer. "I've been going out on my own since I was ten and I'm 24 now. I shot a deer every year except one," Brittany said.
She wants to do as much public speaking as possible during her one year reign. She is also excited to be asked to join the board of Becoming an Outdoor Woman, an organization that runs programs and seminars in an effort to get more women afield.
